The town changed its name, and the old distillery was closed long ago. But if Loopuyt WAS an island nation in a \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJonathan Swift \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003enovel, it would be populated by tiny \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGin-loving happy Dutch \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003epeople and master distiller \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJaco van der Leun \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003ewould be their king. \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\tJaco revived the old-world brand as \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eP. Loopuyt \u0026amp; Co \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003ein 2013 and started distilling their \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e1772 Dry Gin\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e—named in honor of the founding of that first distillery in the tiny Dutch town with the odd name. \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLoopuyt Dry Gin \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003ehas a label that looks like it was created by a \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSoviet politburo. \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003eThe letters have all the sharp edges and stark colors of a \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eCold War propaganda poster. \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003eBut it does look pretty cool and almost forbidden, in a way. So let’s go with that. Inside the bottle is a really solid \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eClassic Dry Gin, \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003ewith a \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e“cool fruit” \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003eessence that is slick as well. \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\tWe like it when a distiller tells you what’s inside. Just feels honest, right? And \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLoopuyt \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003edoes that. Juniper is there—\u003cem\u003eof course\u003c\/em\u003e—but the magic is always in the rest of it. In this case you get lavender, orange and grapefruit zest, cinchona, nutmeg, fresh raspberry, cardamon, coriander, and an interesting mix of mulberries, Incan berries (cape gooseberries), and goji berries. What do you get?
